Webnet Safety Training

Webnet will no longer be required for IACUC and IBC

The ORPC is please to announce that effective 11/15/21 Webnet Training Online Safety Training (https://www.webnettraining.com/) will no longer be required for laboratory safety training for faculty and student participation in biosafety/biohazardous materials (IBC) and animal care and use (IACUC) protocols. We have worked with UMBC Environmental Safety and Health (ESH) to create a single training platform under CITI (https://citiprogram.org/) for all of your research laboratory safety training needs.

This means that PI’s, students, or laboratory staff will no longer be required log into and maintain two separate training modules. CITI provides education modules in laboratory safety, hazard communications, NIH Recombinant DNA Guidelines as well other biosafety related training. The supplemental Hazard Communication module was created to meet ESH’s training requirement. Animal care, research and ethical consideration training is also provided under CITI.  . Note that ESH will continue to use Webnet for other non-research safety training requirements.

Personnel whose Webnet Training is still current can maintain this training certification until the expiration date stated in their Webnet Training account. Renewal or refresher training must then be completed via CITI. PIs who are adding individuals research projects after 11/15/21 are reminded to provide CITI registration information (not Webnet Training) when submitting amendments to current IBC or IACUC protocols. For more information about these modules and training registration details, click on the ORPC Research Education and Training page.
