Timothy Sparklin named Director of ORPC

We are pleased to announce that Timothy (Tim) Sparklin, Compliance Officer in UMBC’s Office of Research Protections and Compliance (ORPC) has been promoted to the position of Director of ORPC, effective May 13, 2021.

With over 38 years of experience across two University System of Maryland institutions, including 29 years with UMBC, Tim brings a remarkable amount of experience to this new position.  Tim is a dual alumnus holding both his master’s degree in Social Work and Bachelor’s in Sociology from UMBC.  His extensive experience includes contract and grant administration at the Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services, at UMBC’s College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences, and centrally within UMBC’s Office of the Vice President for Research and ORPC. 

Tim has also been very active in industry organizations such as the Society for Research Administrators International, where he was a member of their Board of Directors and held the positions of President Elect, President, and Past President from 2021 to 2014.

Tim’s leadership of this critical group within the OVPR will assure continuity of the high level of service and expertise provided by ORPC.
