 The Graduate School is launching a new TA training series this fall—designed to help you excel in your teaching role and connect with TAs across campus.

Kickoff Training & Orientation:
Thursday, August 29
1:00–3:30 p.m.
ILSB 118 (please note this is a room change!) 

This session will cover essential topics for all TAs, including FERPA and Title IX, intercultural awareness, community building, classroom management, formative assessment, and more—plus breakout discussions tailored to your TA role (lab, language, lecture). Please note this session is meant to compliment or supplement whatever training your program may be offering for TAs. Please attend your program's workshop.

We will also be offering an ongoing TA Series this fall on Fridays (stay tuned for more details for these events on myUMBC):

  • Sept 12 – Fostering Belonging & Community

  • Sept 26 – Active Learning: What, Why, and How?

  • Oct 10 – Formative Assessment Techniques

  • Oct 24 – Improving Your Teaching Through Feedback

  • Nov 7 – Summative Assignments

  • Nov 21 – Overcoming End-of-Semester Overwhelm

  • Dec 5 – Translating TA Skills to Your Résumé (not for CIRTL credit)

Complete the August 29 orientation and five of the first six sessions plus a teaching philosophy to earn your CIRTL Associate level—a nationally recognized credential in college teaching.
