Classroom Management Strategies 101 Ͼ – Online Event

If you are interested in a teaching career or actively pursuing the nationally recognized CIRTL certification, please attend this event/discussion. SEA CIRTL Fellows must attend. This is a HyFlex workshop, we have an in-person option in ITE building, room 238 and you can join online via WebEx. Please save the information to join the session in your calendar.
This "Classroom Management Strategies" event and discussion will serve as a tool to prepare for the different kinds of personalities you might encounter in your classroom and the different types of learning styles to try and give all your students a fair opportunity to learn. This theatrical role play (for reals) workshop highlights the delightful experience of working mainly with teenagers (middle school, high school). It's a must if you have yet to have the opportunity to teach in front of a classroom or if you have and would love to become more proficient. This in-person event is dynamic; Steven McAlpine is back and ready to have us all laughing and understanding human nature; please make sure to arrive on time.
About our speaker:
Steven McAlpine is a Lecturer in the Individualized Study program at UMBC. His research focuses on arts integrated STEM education, and he leads a grant funded project based learning course entitled "The Kinetic Sculpture Project." More information about the Kinetic Sculpture Project is available in the article in UMBC Magazine: https://magazine.umbc.edu/fish-out-of-water/. Steven has also taught an educational game development course since 2015 where students redesign and manage a campus wide role playing game. Both of his 400 level courses teach project management skills, team collaboration, design thinking, and skillful use of apps such as Slack and Trello.
Before coming to UMBC, Steven worked as a researcher and seminar facilitator for the Interdisciplinary Studies Project at Harvard Project Zero. While at Harvard, Steven designed a Teachers Guide for Walden Media’s IMAX film “PULSE: a STOMP Odyssey” and worked as an education consultant for the Boston Arts Academy. Steven earned his B.A. from Dartmouth College and his Ed. M. from the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
